Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15 or 90/10)
  • 12 oz fresh lo mein noodles or spaghetti
  • 1/3 cup light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp ginger (minced)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp water)
  • Chopped green onions and sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Noodles
    • Boil the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Brown the Beef
    • Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Remove excess grease if necessary.
  • Add Aromatics
    • Stir in minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Prepare the Sauce
    • In a small bowl, mix light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of water. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the beef.
  • Thicken the Sauce
    • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Combine Noodles and Sauce
    • Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss until well-coated in the sauce.
  • Garnish and Serve
    • Top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or a drizzle of Sriracha to the sauce.
  • Substitute ground beef with ground chicken, turkey, or a plant-based alternative for a variation.
  • Fresh lo mein noodles provide the best texture, but spaghetti or fettuccine can be used as substitutes.
