Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar. Mix well.
  2. Add the flour, salt, shredded cheese, and herbs to the mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll.
  7. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and brush with olive oil before serving.

Notes

  • For a stronger herb flavor, increase the amount of fresh herbs.
  • These rolls can be frozen after baking; just reheat them in the oven before serving.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese for varied flavors.
